But as an additional service to our magazine and online readers, Kiplinger.com offers our complete spreadsheets of 2,672 domestic funds and 588 foreign funds, as well as 192 exchange-traded funds, with results through June 30, 2009. Please note that these files will not be updated. You can use our rankings tool for up-to-date information. But these spreadsheets provide rankings for almost four times as many funds as appeared in the September issue of the magazine.
Open these databases using Excel software, and you can sort by a number of important factors on your PC or laptop. But a note of caution: A complete printout of either of these files could run into hundreds of pages. Better to use Excel to target selected pages to print.
Decile rank shows performance for each of the past five 12-month periods through the end of June, compared with other funds using the same investment style.Funds are ranked 1 (top 10%) to 10 (bottom 10%).
Down market shows returns from October 9, 2007, through March 9, 2009, the latest bear market.
Volatility rank measures stock funds on a scale of 1 (least volatile) to 10 (most volatile).
Maximum load is the highest sales fee for purchasing shares. Returns do not reflect loads. But a fund's expense ratio -- the percentage of assets taken out yearly to cover management and other fees -- is included in the total return.For more on how to navigate the tables, see our useful tips.

Not everyone has Microsoft Excel; many only have Microsoft Works - a version of Excel which comes with Microsoft XP for Home...How about providing a version of the Fund data that Works folks can use?

If you do not have Microsoft Excel, consider downloading Open Office. It includes a spreadsheet program that is compatible with the Excel file type. And yes, many thanks for providing this excellent resource!
