The Most Popular Month for Popping the Question

June is traditionally a popular month for getting married. But December is the most popular month for getting engaged, according to Blue Nile, the largest online diamond retailer.

Blue Nile expects to sell more than 30,000 engagement rings in 2007, up from 2,300 in 1999, its first year in business. Average purchase price of a Blue Nile engagement ring: about $5,500.

The company says the most popular setting for engagement rings is platinum, far ahead of white gold and yellow gold.
